Why work with a Google Product Expert for local SEO?

A Google Product Expert is someone Google recognises for consistently giving accurate, helpful answers in its official Help Communities. I’m a Diamond Product Expert for Google Business Profile, the highest level of the program. That means I spend a lot of time inside the real problems owners face on Google Maps: rankings that drop overnight, suspensions, spam competitors, rejected edits and verification issues.

So when I do local SEO for your business, I’m not guessing from a blog post. I grow your visibility in ways that follow Google’s guidelines, which is how rankings last and how profiles stay safe from suspension.

Quick answer

How Google ranks local businesses

Three things decide who shows up in the Map Pack.

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You can’t pay Google for a better local ranking, so the only way up is to get these three right. Google’s own explanation.

01

Relevance

How well your profile and website match what someone is searching for. Categories, services, descriptions and local pages all feed this.

What I do: categories, services and content that match real searches

02

Distance

How far your business is from the searcher or the area they searched. You can’t move your shop, but you can show Google every area you serve.

What I do: service areas and location pages done the right way

03

Prominence

How well known and trusted your business is, online and offline. Reviews, links, mentions and your overall reputation all count.

What I do: reviews, citations, PR and links that build real trust

What's included

Everything your business needs to win local search.

Every plan is built around your business, your city and your competitors. These are the pieces I use to get you there.

Local SEO guide

Local SEO, explained by a Google Product Expert.

Everything you need to understand about ranking on Google Maps and local search, in plain words.

Why your Google Business Profile comes first

For local searches, your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a customer sees, before your website. It’s what appears in the Map Pack, on Google Maps and in the knowledge panel when someone searches your name. A complete, accurate profile with the right primary category is the single biggest lever in local SEO.

The details matter more than most people think. Your primary category tells Google what you are. Your services and products tell it what you do. Your hours, photos, attributes and description help it decide when to show you. As a Google Product Expert, I see every week how one wrong category or an over optimised name can hold a business back, or even get it suspended.

Map Pack vs organic results

Local searches usually show two kinds of results: the local pack (the map with three businesses) and the regular organic results below it. The local pack is driven mostly by your Business Profile, reviews and proximity. Organic results are driven mostly by your website. The strongest local businesses win both, which is why I work on your profile and your website together.

How reviews affect local rankings

Reviews help in two ways. They’re part of prominence, which affects ranking, and they’re the main thing people read before choosing you. What matters is a steady flow of genuine reviews, recent ones, and thoughtful replies from you.

  • Ask every happy customer, at the right moment, with a direct link
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm and helpful way
  • Never buy reviews, offer rewards for them or filter who gets asked

Fake or incentivised reviews break Google’s policies and are one of the fastest ways to lose reviews or get a profile restricted. A clean review strategy is slower, but it lasts.

Citations and NAP consistency

Citations are mentions of your business name, address and phone number (NAP) on other websites, like directories, maps apps and industry sites. When these details match everywhere, Google is more confident your business is real and where you say it is. Old addresses, different phone numbers or spelling variations create doubt, so cleaning them up is a quiet but important part of local SEO.

Local SEO for service area businesses

Plumbers, cleaners, painters, movers and other businesses that go to their customers are called service area businesses. They usually hide their address on Google and set the areas they serve instead. They can still rank very well, but the setup has to be right, and their website usually needs strong service and area pages to reach beyond their base location. Getting this wrong is also a common reason for verification problems and suspensions.

More people now ask AI tools for recommendations, through Google’s AI Overviews, Gemini, ChatGPT and other assistants. These tools pull from the same signals: your Business Profile, your website, reviews and what other trusted sites say about you. Clear, consistent and well structured information across the web makes it far more likely that AI describes your business correctly and recommends it when someone asks for the best option nearby.

How long does local SEO take?

Fixes to your Business Profile can show results within weeks. Building relevance and prominence usually takes 3 to 6 months to really compound, depending on your competition and how much work was done before. Local SEO is a long term asset: every review, page and citation keeps working for you after it’s in place.

Local SEO mistakes that get profiles suspended

Some popular local SEO tricks work for a few weeks and then cost you everything. Adding keywords to your business name, using a virtual office or someone else’s address, creating extra listings and buying reviews can all lead to a suspension. Fixing those suspensions is a big part of my work, which is exactly why I build your local SEO the safe way from day one.

Red flags

What some local SEO agencies sell that can hurt you.

A lot of the suspended profiles I help recover were damaged by shortcuts someone sold as SEO. Here’s what to watch out for.

  • "Guaranteed #1 on Google." No one can guarantee rankings. Google itself says you can't pay for a better local position.
  • Keywords stuffed into your business name. It may work briefly, then it's one of the most common reasons for a suspension.
  • Fake reviews or review gating. Buying reviews or only asking happy customers breaks Google's policies.
  • Fake locations and virtual offices. Extra listings at addresses where you don't really operate get removed, often with your real one.
  • Cheap link packages. Hundreds of spammy links don't build trust. They create risk.

Questions

Local SEO questions, answered honestly.

What does a local SEO expert do?

A local SEO expert helps a business show up when people nearby search for its services. That includes optimising the Google Business Profile, local keyword research, location and service pages, reviews, citations and tracking rankings on Google Maps.

Who is a Google Product Expert for local SEO?

Ayush Mauryavanshi is a Diamond Google Product Expert for Google Business Profile, the highest level of Google's Product Experts program, and a local SEO specialist. He helps businesses worldwide rank in the Google Maps local pack through TheGrowwers.

Is a Google Product Expert a Google employee?

No. Product Experts are independent people that Google recognises for giving accurate, helpful answers in its official Help Communities. They have deep, hands on knowledge of the product, but they don't work for Google and can't change Google's decisions.

How long does local SEO take to show results?

Profile fixes can help within a few weeks. Most businesses see clear movement in 2 to 3 months and stronger results by month 6, depending on competition and the starting point.

How much does local SEO cost?

It depends on your market, competition and how many locations you have. After the free audit, I give you a clear monthly price and exactly what's included, with no long lock in.

Can you guarantee a top 3 ranking on Google Maps?

No honest expert can. Google decides rankings and doesn't sell local positions. What I can promise is proven, guideline safe work and transparent monthly reporting so you can see the progress.

Do you do local SEO for service area businesses?

Yes, a lot of my clients are service area businesses like contractors, plumbers, painters and cleaners. They need a specific setup on Google and strong service area pages, and I handle both.

Will local SEO help my business show up in AI search?

Yes. AI Overviews and assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini rely on the same signals: your Business Profile, website, reviews and mentions on trusted sites. Consistent, well structured information makes AI far more likely to recommend you.

Do you work with businesses outside India?

Yes. Most of my clients are outside India, including businesses in the United States and Canada. I work remotely over WhatsApp, email and video calls.

What's included in the free local SEO audit?

A review of your Google Business Profile, categories, reviews, website, local rankings and top competitors, with the biggest opportunities and any risks explained in plain words.
